Day 6, Steamboat Geyser.

“OK, just one more geyser.” Steamboat geyser in the Norris basin is spitting, the last major eruption was in April. A Park Ranger says the next is imminent, but we don’t have a month or so to spare. Wet hail speeds our departure.

Steamboat Geyser.

We cross the Continental Divide three times above the snow line at over 8,000ft.

We want to leave the park by 6:00pm, I am not about to drive these roads in the dark. Time is running out. We see the Upper Falls (300ft) and Lower Falls (100ft) in Yellow Stone Canyon at Artist’s Point. An incredible volume of water is falling. The rock colors are spectacular.

Why does a buffalo cross the road? Answer, to create a traffic jam. One was so close, Jan was tempted to lean out of the window and pet him.

We have seen herds of buffalo, deer, one with a nice rack, white pelicans, a brown bear and chipmunks.

Jan decided to try her hand as a rally driver. We were home before dark.
